The heat of the European summer. The cool of a Japanese silk night.
The Midnight Ro is an original Japanese Hōmongi — a visiting kimono of formal standing — cut in the Ro (絽) summer weave: pure Japanese ceremonial silk in which horizontal bands of open gauze are integrated into the cloth at precise intervals, allowing air to circulate freely while creating the subtle, luminous moiré quality that is the signature visual characteristic of Ro silk in motion. This is not the performative breathability of engineered technical fibre — it is the millennia-refined solution Japanese textile tradition arrived at for the precise problem of wearing silk with dignity in the summer heat.
Renaras: existing Japanese ceremonial silk garments, preserved at gallery scale and brought into rooms where they can be seen.
The ground is a deep midnight indigo — Kon-iro (紺色) — a blue so saturated and still it evokes the surface of a lake at ten o'clock on a June evening, just after the last of the light has left the sky. Across this dark canvas, delicate floral sprays in blush and soft white drift upward from the hem in the nagare (flowing) compositional style characteristic of the Hōmongi: motifs that move across seam lines as a single, continuous painted picture rather than as a repeated pattern. The Hōmongi (訪問着, visiting kimono) occupies the formal register immediately below the Furisode — worn by married and unmarried women alike to the occasions that matter: gallery openings, formal dinners, teatime with consequence. In pure Ro silk, for a European summer, it is the single most sophisticated warm-weather garment available anywhere. The Ro weave is semi-transparent — fundamental to its visual lightness — and a silk slip or under-layer is required.
Each garment arrives with a passport from the atelier — a handmade record of its provenance, its construction, and its presentation, signed and dated in Amsterdam.

Care
Care
Spot clean only — these are ceremonial silks, not washable textiles. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the depth of colour. The envelope pocket closure requires no zip or metal clasp touching the silk: this is intentional. Mottainai — nothing wasted, nothing forced.
