Collection: Japanese Ceremonial Silk Bed Runner and Cushion Sets

A bed runner is the last thing laid on a bed and the first thing seen from the door. Each set here is cut from a single Japanese ceremonial obi at the atelier in Amsterdam: a runner for the foot of the bed, backed in plain silk, and three or four cushions for the head, some carrying the pattern and some in the plain silk that gives it room. Runners come in lengths for beds from 140 to 200 cm. Every set is unrepeatable.

Renaras designs and reimagines existing Japanese ceremonial silk into contemporary pieces for daily life — this is our mottainai: the bringing of new imagination into a living tradition.

Questions we are asked

What does a bed runner set include?

A runner for the foot of the bed, backed in plain silk, and three or four cushions for the head, some carrying the pattern and some in the plain silk that gives it room. Each set is cut from a single Japanese ceremonial obi.

Which bed sizes do the runners fit?

Runner lengths range from about 198 to 290 cm and suit beds from 140 to 200 cm wide. Each listing records the exact runner and cushion dimensions.

Are the cushions supplied with inserts?

No. Cushion covers are supplied without inserts so the fill can be chosen; standard 36 × 30 cm inserts suit them.

Can a set be specified for a hotel suite?

Yes. Renaras works with interior designers and hotels through Renaras For Spaces, with reservations, commissions and private viewings at the Amsterdam atelier.
