Every Renaras piece begins as a ceremonial silk — a kimono obi worn at a wedding, a furisode carried through generations of family life. We design and reimagine these singular textiles as wall art, table couture, and luxury objects for homes that value beauty with a history.

About the Atelier

At our atelier on IJsbaanpad in Amsterdam, we work exclusively with Japanese ceremonial silk — obis and kimono textiles woven for ceremony, occasion, and household ritual. Each textile arrives with a history. We design and finish every piece in-house, transforming the silk into wall tapestries, lumbar pillows, table runners, table placemats, framed textile panels, knot bags, and ties.

Our practice is grounded in mottainai — the bringing of new imagination into a living tradition. Every Renaras piece is unrepeatable. Once a silk has been transformed, it cannot be made again.

Every finished piece is accompanied by a Renaras passport — a small handmade record of the silk’s first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam.
