Japanese Ceremonial Silk Table Runner – The Koushi-Mon, Lattice in Vermilion and Ivory

Koushi-mon. The lattice motif. The structural geometry of Japanese architecture and decorative arts — woven here in relief, accented in the kasuri tradition.

The ground is dyed in shu-aka brick-red vermilion. Across it, the koushi lattice motif is rendered in relief weave, with structural lines of ivory and ochre punctuated by obsidian black intersections. The geometry inherits its discipline from the kasuri ikat tradition — every thread placed by precise calculation. The vermilion gives the composition its warmth. The lattice gives it its structure.

A runner that turns the daily table into something a little finer — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared meal.

The runner is lined in undyed silk to protect the face. No metal touches the visible silk.
