Deep plum. Ancient motifs. Woven into your table, once.
The Koki-Murasaki is a vintage Japanese silk table runner handcrafted by Renaras from an authentic double-faced pure silk textile of exceptional embroidery complexity. The foundation is dyed in Koki-Murasaki (濃紫) — deep plum, one of the most historically charged colours in Japanese culture. In the Heian court, Murasaki was the colour of the highest imperial rank, reserved for nobles of the first order and entirely forbidden to those below them. On silk, this depth of purple has a quality no other textile achieves: it absorbs light in the shadows and releases it at the surface, shifting between eggplant, violet, and near-black depending on the hour and the source of illumination. Against this living ground, an asymmetrical embroidered composition unfolds across the surface — Seigaiha (青海波) wave arcs and Matsu (松) pine motifs rendered in copper, slate blue, and silver thread, placed with the deliberate imbalance of a classical Japanese ink painting rather than the mechanical symmetry of a loom.
Asymmetrical embroidery placement of this kind — known in the Japanese textile tradition as Chirashi (散らし), meaning scattered or distributed — requires the embroiderer to work without a repeating grid, placing each motif by judgement rather than by pattern. The Seigaiha wave, one of Japan's oldest geometric motifs, represents the endless sea and the protection it offers; the Matsu pine, enduring through every season, has signified longevity and quiet strength in Japanese art for over a thousand years. Together on a field of deep plum, they create a composition that is formal without being rigid, decorative without being ornamental.
On a dining table, a stone console, or a sideboard, the Koki-Murasaki brings the particular authority of deep purple into a contemporary European interior — grounding a room without darkening it, adding depth to light wood, lifting the quality of marble and stone surfaces, and sitting with complete confidence alongside charcoal, forest green, warm ivory, and aged brass. It is not a decorative accent. It is the piece that makes the table feel considered.
One plum. One scatter. Irreplaceable.
