A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): a sansui (山水, mountain-water) landscape — permanence, change and mist — across aged gold silk. Envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 31 cm (also 36 × 31 cm). For contemplative, narrative interiors. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam.

Sansui. Mountain and water. The oldest compositional form in East Asian art — mountains for permanence, water for change, mist for the unknowable — rendered here in silk and thread.

Against a warm aged-gold silk ground, an entire sansui landscape unfolds: mountains rising through veils of mist, seasonal blossoms drifting between ravines, flowing water rendered in the finest curving lines of the ryūsui tradition. Sage-celadon hills layer against moss-green valleys; copper-bronze momiji maple leaves and pale plum blossoms scatter through the terrain, each element occupying its seasonal position with the precision of a Yamato-e scroll painting. The gold gives the composition its breath. The flowing water gives it its movement.

A pillow for charcoal linen sofas, Scandinavian oak daybeds, ivory-dressed beds, study libraries — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table.

The face carries the landscape composition. The reverse is finished in the obi's original solid gold satin — luminous, unadorned, perfectly weighted. Envelope pocket closure. No metal touches the visible silk.

Shipping

Free shipping across Europe. Delivered within 3–5 business days. International shipping available — contact us for rates. All pieces are wrapped individually in tissue and despatched in a rigid, protective box.

Returns

Returns accepted within 14 days of receipt, provided the piece is returned in its original condition. As every textile is singular and unrepeatable, we ask that pieces are handled with care. Please contact us before returning. Read the full returns policy.

Care

Spot clean only — these are ceremonial silks, not washable textiles. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the depth of colour. The envelope pocket closure requires no zip or metal clasp touching the silk: this is intentional. Mottainai — nothing wasted, nothing forced.
