A two-faced lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯). One face is gold-bronze with sakura (桜); the reverse opens into a bokashi (ぼかし) gradient from green to madder akane (茜), trailed with wild nogiku (野菊). Envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 31 cm. Reversible by season. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam.

Akane. The colour of madder root, deep and slow. One obi, two faces, two seasons — a passage from green to red that no loom will weave again in the same sequence.

One face carries a gold-bronze ground with scattered sakura cherry blossoms and plum flowers in tone-on-tone crosshatch — quiet, monastic, restrained. The reverse opens into a bokashi gradient: moss-olive green passing through sage and amber into vivid madder red, a graduated dye achieved through successive immersions in different baths, each timed by the artisan's hand. Wild nogiku chrysanthemums trail across the surface in gold and cream, their stems shifting hue as they cross from one season into the next. The crackle-pattern ground gives the silk its movement. The gradient gives it its passage.

A pillow that turns the daily room from quiet to chromatic with a single gesture — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table.

The two faces carry equal authority — the gold sakura side reads tonal and meditative; the akane gradient side reads alive and dramatic. The pillow can be turned with the season. Envelope pocket closure. No metal touches the visible silk.

Care

Spot clean only — these are ceremonial silks, not washable textiles. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the depth of colour. The envelope pocket closure requires no zip or metal clasp touching the silk: this is intentional. Mottainai — nothing wasted, nothing forced.
