Champagne silk. Wildflowers at each end. Woven into your table, once.
The Champagne Orchard is a vintage Japanese silk table runner handcrafted by Renaras from an authentic unbleached vintage silk textile distinguished by a tactile, matte Tsumugi-adjacent slubbed weave that no contemporary production process replicates. The ground is champagne cream — not white, not ivory, but the particular warm undyed tone of silk allowed to express its natural colour, the colour that Japanese textile tradition calls Kinari (生成り), meaning unbleached, raw, and honest. This is the most structurally organic colourway in the Table Couture collection, and the slubbed weave surface — where irregular thread thicknesses create a subtle topographic variation across the entire length — gives the champagne ground a depth and warmth that photographed flat simply cannot convey. At each end of the runner, two composed panels of embroidered wildflowers are worked in crimson, ochre, and leaf green thread — botanical clusters that anchor the textile at both terminals while leaving the wide champagne centre entirely unadorned, creating a natural frame for whatever occupies the centre of the table. This asymmetry of decoration — present at the edges, absent at the heart — is a design decision rooted in the Japanese principle of Ma (間): the meaningful use of empty space as an active compositional element.
The slubbed weave construction is the defining technical quality of this runner. Unlike smooth-woven silk where thread thickness is standardised, a slubbed textile embraces the natural variation of the silk filament — producing a surface that catches diffuse light across its irregularities and reads differently under candlelight, morning sun, and the warm glow of an evening dining table. The wildflower embroidery at each end is worked directly into this textured ground, the crimson and ochre thread colours chosen to complement the warm cream base without competing with it.
On a dining table, a console, or a sideboard, the Champagne Orchard is the most versatile and seasonally enduring piece in the Table Couture collection. The champagne Kinari ground pairs with everything — dark walnut, pale oak, white marble, terracotta, aged linen, and raw stone — while the wildflower end panels introduce just enough colour and narrative to distinguish it from a plain textile. It is the runner for the table that needs to work every day and be remembered on the occasions that matter.
