Bengara. The rust-red of ancient Japan. The iron oxide red of temple interiors and lacquered ceremonial objects — woven here through the demanding kasuri technique.
The foundation is dyed in bengara — the rust-red historically reserved for Japan's most enduring architectural surfaces. Against it, two of Japan's most classical motifs are rendered in precision kasuri weave: the floating ume plum blossom in muted slate blue, counterbalanced by the geometric asanoha hemp leaf pattern in cream and olive-gold. Kasuri requires individual threads to be resist-dyed before weaving, then aligned by hand so the pattern forms precisely as the loom works. The bengara gives the composition its warmth. The kasuri gives it its precision.
A runner that turns the daily table into something a little finer — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared meal.
The runner is lined in undyed silk to protect the face. No metal touches the visible silk.

Care
Care
Spot clean only — these are ceremonial silks, not washable textiles. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the depth of colour. The envelope pocket closure requires no zip or metal clasp touching the silk: this is intentional. Mottainai — nothing wasted, nothing forced.
