Collection: Shop Vintage Japanese Silk Wall Art & Tapestries — The Woven Dynasty Collection

Some objects carry centuries in their threads.

The Woven Dynasty Collection is Renaras's most singular offering: vintage Japanese silk wall art and hand-painted silk tapestries drawn from ceremonial Fukuro Obi and Maru Obi silks once worn at the highest occasions of Japanese formal life, and from authentic hand-painted Tenugui and scroll silks of the Meiji and Shōwa eras. These are not reproductions. Every thread is original. Every pattern is unrepeatable.

The Fukuro Obi pieces at the heart of this collection required over 200 hours each to weave on the Nishijin Jacquard looms of Kyoto — the most technically demanding textile tradition in the world. The weaving techniques behind them vanished with the craftsmen who held them. What remains is the textile itself: mounted, framed, and given a second life as Japanese silk wall art of irreplaceable cultural and material authority.

Alongside the woven Obi pieces, the collection includes works in the hand-painted Japanese silk tradition — Tenugui scrolls and painted silk panels where pigment meets pure silk in compositions of botanical, figurative, and landscape subject matter, each one an individual work rather than a production run.

These are pieces for interiors that collect meaning, not just objects. For the wall that has been waiting for something worthy of it.

The Renaras Promise: Every piece in The Woven Dynasty Collection arrives with a certificate documenting its textile origin, estimated period, and Obi type. We source exclusively from verified Japanese estate collections. This is not Japanese-inspired. This is Japan.
