Collection: Japanese Ceremonial Silk Bags

Japanese ceremonial silk knot bags, reimagined from fukuro obi.

Renaras designs and reimagines existing Japanese ceremonial silk into contemporary pieces for daily life — this is our mottainai: the bringing of new imagination into a living tradition. Woven once for moments of significance, carried into the day with the same care that went into its making.

Each knot bag in this collection is cut from a Japanese ceremonial fukuro obi — woven for weddings, tea ceremonies, and formal occasions — and finished at our Amsterdam atelier with a knotted closure that needs no clasp, no hardware, no zip. The obi determines the composition; the cut follows the silk, not the reverse. Brocaded florals, cranes, gold and silver thread, and patterns built into the weave itself: each bag carries the original textile's design language into a hand, into a room, across a city.

Each knot bag is singular. Once the original silk is cut, the composition does not return.

One silk. One story. One piece. Never repeated.
