Japanese Ceremonial Silk Table Runner – The Radiant Rouge, Geometric Yagasuri in Red and Silver

Aka. The pure ceremonial red. The colour of protection, vitality and auspicious occasion — present in shrine gates, lacquerware, and the formal textiles of Japanese ceremonial life.

The ribbed silk ground catches light at different angles, the aka shifting between deep vermilion and bright scarlet depending on hour and source. Against this living red, radiating silver geometric lines and triangular motifs are precision-woven in metallic gin thread — the silver counterpart to gold in the Japanese ceremonial vocabulary. The pattern belongs to the yagasuri tradition, when Western geometric influences were absorbed into Japanese weaving and reinterpreted through Nishijin Jacquard precision. The aka gives the composition its temperature. The silver gives it its discipline.

The runner is lined in undyed silk to protect the face. No metal touches the visible silk.
