The ground is cream — luminous, warm, alive with the particular depth that only naturally complex silk weaving achieves. Across it, matsu pine branches stretch in silver thread with the unhurried authority of branches that have grown in the same direction for a hundred years. The raised woven embroidery sits slightly proud of the silk, creating micro-relief that responds to candlelight in the manner of hammered metal — shadow in the channels, luminosity at the peaks. The cream gives the composition its space. The silver gives it its longevity.
