Renaras at a glance

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that gives Japanese ceremonial silk a second life. Obi, uchikake, furisode and furoshiki woven for weddings, tea ceremonies and formal occasions are cut and finished by hand at Overschiestraat 184, Amsterdam, into contemporary pieces for interiors. No piece is ever repeated.

What Renaras makes

Wall tapestries (355–1,070 EUR), lumbar pillow covers (235–395 EUR), table runners (235–395 EUR) and placemats (85 EUR), bed runner sets (1,250–1,850 EUR), knot bags (235–435 EUR), and uchikake, furisode and hōmongi mounted as textile art (250–2,500 EUR). Cotton furoshiki (16–20 EUR) and Patchin wooden handles (40–50 EUR) are the entry pieces. Around 150 pieces are available at any time.

What makes a Renaras piece

One silk, one piece: each object is cut from a single ceremonial textile, so the composition exists once. Every piece ships with the Renaras passport, a handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam, and with a custodianship letter in the client's name. No metal touches the silk; pillow covers close with an envelope pocket, knot bags with a knotted self-closure, tapestries hang between hardwood bars in a light or dark finish.

Gifts

Every acquisition leaves the atelier wrapped in furoshiki. Gifts are arranged in three registers: under 100 EUR, 100–400 EUR and above 400 EUR. A Renaras gift card (50–1,000 EUR) is delivered by email. A message for the recipient can be added in the cart.
