At Renaras, we define luxury by the provenance of beauty. We are distinguished to present this resplendent Homongi (Visiting Kimono), a garment of such artisanal calibre that it serves not merely as attire, but as a wearable testament to the Kyoto aesthetic.
A Tableau of Auspicious splendour The canvas for this masterpiece is pure, heavy-gauge silk, dyed in a warm, inviting hue of imperial terracotta that shifts subtly into soft apricot under evening light. This specific shade is historically favoured for its ability to warm the complexion, offering a flattering radiance to the wearer.
The design is a sophisticated interplay of the Ho-o (Phoenix)—the legendary bird of peace and feminine virtue—soaring amidst a garden of auspicious flora. Chrysanthemums and peonies are rendered with exquisite precision, but it is the "Gold-Lit" technique that commands attention. Through the application of Kinsai (gold leaf) and metallic threads, the birds and blooms appear to possess their own internal luminosity, catching the chandelier light with every graceful movement.
The European Connoisseur’s Vision While traditionally worn for tea ceremonies and formal receptions in Japan, the modern European aesthete understands the versatility of such a garment.
The Soirée: We envision this piece worn open as a spectacular evening coat over a silk slip dress for an opera premiere in Vienna or a gallery opening in Mayfair. It offers a silhouette of relaxed grandeur that Western couture rarely achieves
The Interior: For the collector, this kimono serves as a striking tapestry. Draped over a lacquer screen or mounted on a wall in a high-ceilinged drawing room, it introduces an element of Orientalist romance to a contemporary interior.
The Fabric Crafted from 100% Pure Silk (Shosu), the fabric possesses a liquid drape—substantial yet cool against the skin—speaking to the quality of mid-century Japanese weaving.
